My interest in art started at three years old from watching my older brother. From then on, I began to take art seriously. After elementary school, I went to a visual arts program in middle school and high school. Now I attend Tidewater Community College (TCC) in Norfolk, VA studying Fine Arts with a focus on Graphic Design.
A lot of my work is about personal experiences. My past work has been about my family, myself, and topics that I feel strongly about. I am strong in realism art from my years practicing portraits, drawing figures, and drawing still lives. As I have evolved, my goal for my art is to convey more emotion. As a viewer, I enjoy relating to the artist with the contents of their work so I strive to do the same with my art.
I have learned that I am comfortable with ink, graphite, charcoal, and colored pencils. Charcoal has allowed me to control my marks while enabling me to make mistakes. With colored pencils, I gained a better understanding of color theory. A medium like painting is still something I am trying to grasp but I have learned techniques through an oil painting course at TCC. However, not just one piece is solely one medium for I am constantly learning with new mediums and techniques.
I am proud to say that I have done public art projects and I have won awards in juried shows throughout high school. Many opportunities have come my way thanks to the Governor’s School for the Arts (GSA). Throughout my time at TCC, I have been able to expand my skills in a multitude of mediums. My portfolio has grown since high school with experience in photography, painting, digital design, and more.
